Olandria & Rolling Stone Africa Team up with KAZAMANCE to donate 200 backpacks & hygiene products in Nigeria

Rolling Stone Africa cover star Olandria Carthen joined Rolling Stone Africa and Kazamance in supporting hundreds of students in Lagos, Nigeria through Kazamance's 1000 Bags for 1000 Dreams Campaign, an education initiative designed to empower young people with the resources, encouragement, and opportunities needed to pursue their dreams.
The initiative formed part of Olandria's cover journey with Rolling Stone Africa during her first visit to the African continent. Throughout the experience, Olandria spent meaningful time with students, educators, and community members, helping distribute more than 200 school bags and essential educational supplies while sharing messages of perseverance, self-belief, and purpose.
Education has always played a central role in Olandria's advocacy. As a Microsoft Copilot Ambassador and passionate advocate for youth empowerment, she has consistently used her platform to champion greater access to education, technology, and opportunity for young people. Her commitment extends beyond awareness, focusing on creating meaningful impact and helping young people realize their full potential.
What unfolded during the school visit was far more than a donation initiative. Students were given an opportunity to share their dreams, aspirations, and challenges while engaging in powerful conversations about the future. Olandria's message resonated deeply throughout the school as she encouraged students to believe in themselves, embrace their uniqueness, and pursue opportunities that may at times feel beyond reach.
"True influence is not measured by visibility, but by the lives we impact," said Gwen Madiba, Editor-in-Chief of Rolling Stone Africa. "What we witnessed was the power of representation in action. The students saw someone who looked like them, who understood the importance of perseverance, and who reminded them that their dreams are valid and achievable."
The impact of the visit inspired a longer-term commitment from both Rolling Stone Africa and Kazamance.
Following conversations with students, teachers, and school leadership about the resources needed to support learning outcomes, Rolling Stone Africa and Kazamance have committed to supporting the school over the next year through resources identified by both educators and students as essential to their success.
The commitment reflects the next phase of Kazamance's 1000 Bags for 1000 Dreams Campaign, transforming a one-day distribution initiative into a sustained investment in education and community empowerment.
One of the most moving moments of the journey was captured through the creative vision behind Olandria's Rolling Stone Africa cover story.
Imagined by Matthew and Reginald Reisman, Olandria wore a stunning custom creation by designer Charifa Labarang featuring original artwork by Aurélie Kadjo of Art.Baobab. More than a dress, the piece became a canvas of hope.
Students were invited to write messages, dreams, and aspirations directly onto the garment, transforming it into a collective work of art that reflected their voices, ambitions, and hopes for the future.
As Olandria sat among the children, sharing stories, hugs, laughter, tears, and conversations about their dreams, the dress evolved into something far greater than a fashion piece. It became a symbol of connection, possibility, and the transformative power of creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and valued.
The emotional exchange captured the essence of the initiative itself: investing not only in educational resources, but in the confidence, aspirations, and potential of the next generation.
"One of the most powerful lessons from this experience is that hope grows when communities come together," added Madiba. "When children are given the opportunity to dream, when educators are supported, and when platforms are used in service of others, extraordinary things become possible."
For Olandria, the initiative reflects a philosophy that has guided her journey from the very beginning: success is most meaningful when it creates opportunities for others.
As her influence continues to grow across borders and cultures, her commitment to using that influence in service of young people remains unwavering.
Through partnerships such as this, Rolling Stone Africa, Kazamance, and Olandria Carthen hope to continue creating meaningful impact while ensuring that every child has access to the tools, encouragement, and support needed to pursue their dreams.
